Making a child protection referral
Follow these important step
1 |
Clearly document concerns and collate any family information that you aware of. |
2 |
If you are unsure how to proceed, seek advice from your line manager, Children’s Social Care Team or the Duty Paediatrician at the local hospital. |
3 |
If a child protection referral is required contact the Children’s Social Care Team to provide them with the details and information. Confirm that you are making a child protection referral. |
4 |
Follow up the verbal referral in writing, within 48 hours. Retain a copy of your referral for your reference. |
5 |
Wherever possible, share your intent to refer with parents / carers of child (exceptions outlined in child protection procedures). |
6 |
Always follow child protection procedures. If you believe a child is at risk of immediate harm call the police or the Children’s Social Care. |
