This include training opportunities delivered by the ourselves and a range of partner organisations, as well as links to other organisations such as Skills for Care who have a wealth of further support and resources available. Advance Care Planning |
St Leonard's Hospice run monthly sessions on the third Friday of each month 9.30-12.00 which are open to staff from all Vale of York area providers, designed to support in empowering people’s choice and wishes. Open to all, the training session is designed to normalise and enhance decision making in end of life care. You will gain an insight into the types of decisions we make, your legal protections and how best to support friends, families, and patients. For more information please follow this link. |
Continence |
York and Scarborough Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust have released a series of dates for catheterisation and bowel simulation training sessions designed for registered nurses working in the Vale of York area taking place in 2024. Additional sessions are also being held for non registered staff to support development of skills in promoting continence for those in your care, including management of incontinence and catheter care. Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) |

Dementia |
Dementia Forward are able to provide a range of training and support to care providers in supporting those within your care with Dementia or memory challenges. For more information please call 03300 578 592 or email info@dementiaforward.org.uk Also available is training on The Positive Approach to Care™ concept, which is designed to support people living with dementia by equipping both formal and informal carers with specific skills aimed at increasing understanding of what it is like to live with dementia. Freestyle Libre Management |
An increasing number of individuals in our care will be in receipt of Flash Glucose Monitoring equipment which allows monitoring of glucose levels without a finger prick test. For those settings with residents with the Freestyle Libre system, the manufacturer are offering bi-monthly training sessions available to staff which will guide through the basics of using the devices and interpreting the results. New Free E-learning Tool: Depression in Older Adults |
NHS Learning Hub have launched a new e-learning tool designed to help those caring for older adults to recognise the symptoms and supports conversations that may initially feel quite daunting. It been developed for anyone providing care / support to older people including those working in the community, in care homes or domiciliary settings, in voluntary services and those working in the NHS in any setting. The E-learning is interactive and includes videos, case studies and podcasts. Takes approximately 50 minutes per theme and can be dipped in and out of. Aims of the module are to:

Home First |
Health Education England’s e-learning for healthcare (HEE elfh) has worked with NHS England and NHS Improvement, The Queen’s Nursing Institute, Allied Health Professionals and the Department of Health and Social Care, to develop the new Home First, Act Now e=learning programme. The programme supports health and care professionals involved in the discharge process, to act in a way that values patient time and helps facilitate safe and timely discharge from hospital. The e-learning programme also aims to increase awareness around Home First Principles in the Discharge Policy. By completing the sessions, learners will understand the principles of Home First, benefit from first hand case study examples and be able to share best practice. Home First, Act Now is suitable for a range of health and care professionals including nurses, AHPs, care staff and students across NHS providers, commissioners and social care. These virtual Cancer Champion training sessions help raise awareness of signs and symptoms of cancer to encourage early detection within local communities. The 90-minute session will be available to anybody from across the Humber and North Yorkshire area, and aims to save lives by promoting healthy lifestyle choices and encouraging early detection of cancer, when treatment could be simpler and more successful. You'll gain the confidence and knowledge to have life-saving conversations about cancer and everyone who completes the course will receive a copy of our virtual handbook, a certificate and a badge to show they have taken part. |

All care homes who have the Immedicare service in place are able to access a range of virtual training sessions. This includes all the below topics. Providers with the service will receive monthly timetables of upcoming courses directly. The February timetable can be found through this link.

Palliative Care- Saint Catherines Hospice |
Over the next 12 months, Saint Catherine's Hospice will be hosting a further series of virtual sessions based on a curriculum for all health and social care providers in North Yorkshire to access education on palliative care topics. Palliative Care- Learning Disablities |
The PCPLD aim to raise awareness of the palliative care needs of people with learning disabilities, to share and promote ‘best practice’ and to enhance collaboration between all services providers, carers and people with a learning disability. They provide resources, webinars and training that may be helpful to providers. |
Personalised Care Institute |
Personalised Care Institute (PCI) which is the NHS-endorsed home of personalised care education. It has a growing number of free eLearning modules, developed and peer-reviewed by national subject leaders and each one takes just 30-60 mins to complete. It sets the standards for third-party courses with its robust quality-assured accreditation programme, signposting clinicians to the very highest quality training. Its partners include NHS England and more than 40 royal colleges and professional health and care associations, and it provides a range of services including consultancy and research. Syringe Driver Management |

The Improvement Academy are operated by Yorkshire and Humber AHSN, and offer a range of training relevant to the care sector. This include bronze and silver awards in quality improvement, which provide are an introduction to a model of improvement and how to use in practice within your sector. Other training modules include achieving behaviour change, understanding data for improvement and human factors training. |

Verification of Expected Death |
Saint Catherine's Hospice are running sessions throughout 2024 available to nurses within the Scarborough, Ryedale and Whitby locality. For further information please follow this link. Access New Qualifications Through DN Colleges Group- Open to All Health and Care Staff Across Humber and North Yorkshire |
NHS Humber and North Yorkshire ICB are offering you the opportunity to gain new skills and qualifications through a partnership with DN College, via a bespoke online learning portal. This exciting offer is fully funded and open to all health, care and VCSE staff and volunteers across our system. The qualifications available are at academic levels 1, 2 and 3 and cover a diverse range of subjects relevant to clinical and non-clinical roles. There are also qualifications around quality improvement, leadership, equality and diversity and personal wellbeing. To be eligible to enrol, staff and volunteers must be employed (paid or unpaid) by one of the HNY’s health, social care (including independent sector) or voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations. You do not have to be NHS staff to access the training. Please note, there are no restrictions on the number of level 1 or 2 qualifications an individual member of staff or volunteer can complete. Level 3 qualifications are available to those who do not presently hold a level 3 (A-Level or equivalent) qualification. City of York Council |
City of York Council’s Workforce Development Unit offer a large number of training sessions relevant to adult social care staff. Some of this training is available to providers free of charge and others will come with a small cost. To book on to these courses you will need to register for a MyLo account. North Yorkshire Council LearningZone |
