Public invited to ‘be the commissioner’ at healthcare event

Patients and members of the public are invited to ‘be the commissioner’ at the next Vale of York Patient and Public Engagement Forum.

The event, which is hosted by NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), is an invitation for patients and members of the public join conversations about local healthcare services.

Rachel Potts, Chief Operating Officer at NHS Vale of York CCG, said: “We are planning something very different for this event. Theoretically speaking, we’re handing the commissioning reigns and budget over to the community so we can hear even more about their local healthcare priorities.

“In conjunction with our colleagues at Healthwatch North Yorkshire, we have developed a task that provides the public with the opportunity to be health commissioners.

“We have simplified the process, but the outcomes will tell us what members of the local community view as important issues.

“To make the task as real to life as possible, participants will be asked to manage various situations. The task will be interesting, thought-provoking but above all, we aim for it to be enjoyable. Whatever their background, we have tailored this so everyone in the local community can have the opportunity to get involved.”

The event details are:

Where: Priory Street Centre, Priory Street, York.

When: Tuesday 28 October 2014, 6pm-8pm
