Local health commissioners announce new provider for Out of Hours GP service
NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has announced today that a new service provider is set to deliver out of hours care for the local community.
The development to commission a new Out of Hours GP service started in February 2014 when the CCG gathered views about urgent care from local patients, members of the public and clinicians. The information collected from conversations, surveys and focus groups was used to form the basis of developing the new service.
A formal procurement process to secure a new service provider to operate the local GP Out-of-Hours service was then undertaken. The provider has been confirmed as Northern Doctors Urgent Care, part of the Vocare Group.
Dr Andrew Phillips, a local GP and the CCG’s lead for Urgent Care, said: “The CCG has commissioned an experienced provider for GP Out-of-Hours services in the Vale of York.
“Members of the public will be able to access urgent care in the same way.
“They should still call 111, the free, fast and easy way to get the right help, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and depending on their condition, appropriate help will be arranged for them.
“NHS 111 should be called when medical help is needed fast but it’s not a 999 emergency.”
John Harrison, Chief Executive of Northern Doctors Urgent Care said: “We are delighted that we have been chosen as preferred provider for Vale of York’s GP Out-of-Hours service.
“At Northern Doctors Urgent Care our focus is to ensure that patients receive the right care at the right time for their needs. We look forward to working with local healthcare providers to deliver high quality and consistent Out-of-Hours care for patients in the Vale of York.”
The new service will launch on 1 April 2015.
