As part of the ongoing efforts of the COVID-19 vaccination programme in York, the NHS is providing pop-up clinics across the city. You do not need to be registered with a GP practice or have an NHS number in order to attend a vaccine clinic. If you have any questions about the vaccine, you’ll be able to chat on-site before you have it.
How to get your COVID jab
Everyone aged 5+ can get the first and second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. People aged 16+, and some children aged 12 to 15, can also have a booster dose.
Those aged 5+ who had a severely weakened immune system when they had their first 2 doses, will be offered a third dose before any booster doses.
You do not need to speak to your GP surgery or local pharmacy before arranging a vaccination appointment. Appointments can be booked and managed through the national NHS booking system.
Autumn Booster 2022
In line with the latest guidance from the JCVI (Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation), the NHS is providing COVID-19 booster vaccines to the following people this Autumn:
- Residents in a care home for older adults and staff working in care homes for older adults
- Frontline health and social care workers
- All adults aged 50 years and over
- Those aged 5 to 49 years in a clinical risk group
- Those aged 5 to 49 years who are household contacts of people with immunosuppression
- Those aged 16 to 49 years who are carers
The COVID-19 vaccination can be administered alongside the flu vaccination. However, there will be other factors, such as vaccine delivery schedules and the characteristic of vaccination sites which will influence decisions in this area. Patients receiving the COVID-19 vaccination in York must be registered with a Nimbuscare practice to get the flu jab at the same time.
When to book a vaccination appointment
If you are eligible, you can book your first, second, third or booster vaccine immediately on the NHS website or by calling 119.
You can now pre-book your booster from two months (61 days) after your second dose. You will be offered an appointment three months (91 days) after the date of your second jab. You may also receive an invitation from your GP practice – please book your booster as soon as you are eligible.
